On Site Dental Laboratory
• Our full-service onsite dental laboratory helps us provide New York’s highest levels of cosmetic dentistry, implant dentistry and aesthetic restorative dentistry. Most dental practices do not have a lab -- of any size.
• Staffed by a large team of dedicated, highly talented technicians, employing the finest quality materials and the most advanced technology and equipment, our world-class lab serves our doctors and our patients exclusively.
• Doctors and technicians work side by side at each step of every restoration, which is critical to our dental health care team approach and the highly personalized patient care that is at the heart of our treatment philosophy.
• The technicians are able to offer their input and expertise chair-side as “smile design” decisions, such as color matching, tooth shapes and tooth positions, which affect the appearance of the lips and the face, are made between the doctor, the patient and the technician.
• The doctors are able to oversee the design, choice of materials and fabrication at every step of every restoration made in our lab, helping to assure the creation of exactly was envisioned.
• When crowns, veneers, implants, bridges or any dental restorations are entrusted to a outside lab, the likelihood of error in design or workmanship increases.
• Most dental practices frequently send the final restorations back to the off-site lab for minor adjustments, which requires additional patient visits. At SDNY, finishing touches can be applied to the final restoration while the patient waits.
• In an emergency, our onsite lab is right there to perform repairs of broken restorations, such as dentures, bridges and crowns. In most cases, repairs can be done quickly and at minimal cost. Repairs at outside labs require additional visits, often at significant cost to the patient.
• Our laboratory technicians have had special training in a system of digital photography and computer-aided esthetic shade matching for better, more natural appearing tooth restorations. We also use digital photography for instant three-way communication and consultation between our dentists, patients and lab technicians.
• To remain at the top of their profession, all of our technicians are required to attend yearly continuing education courses held throughout the country. And we have in-house seminars for our laboratory staff, where both our doctors and outside experts teach courses and lead discussions.
• Just as our doctors are all respected educators, so too are many of our technicians. Our master ceramist, Adam Mieleszko, holds a teaching position at the New York University College of Dentistry. Internationally recognized for his work in aesthetic and cosmetic dental restorations, he has contributed to multiple technical articles and textbooks on dental aesthetics. Adam leads our team of five gifted ceramists who all work together to maintain the highest standards of practice.
• Our metal department, where all of the critical structural components of the crowns, bridges and implant restorations are designed and made, is lead by two extremely creative and motivated technicians, Robert Pindor and Luis Santiago. They, too, are recognized as leaders in their field.
The high-tech equipment used in our laboratory includes:
• Natural-appearing tooth colored fillings made with Ivoclar Empress and E-Max pressed ceramic system (made from start to finish by our ceramic department). These are the most beautiful and long-lasting tooth colored restorations available.
• We have the Cerec digital scanning device for CAD-CAM fabrication of all-ceramic restorations. This system, which allows the technician to generate aesthetic restorations on a computer for unparalleled accuracy and strength, can even produce same-day final restorations. Custom designed implant components, cosmetic crowns and tooth-colored fillings (inlays) can be made using this remarkable technology.
• Our laboratory is fully equipped by KaVo, universally acknowledged as the top of the line in dental laboratory equipment.
• We use only the finest gold alloys on the market in order to assure accuracy of fit, structural durability, and most important, patient safety. Non-precious metals, which are often implicated in dental-induced allergic reactions in patients, are never used in our laboratory for any purpose. Even our metal-reinforced temporary restorations are made using gold alloys.
